Producer Standards

Every farmer and artisan we work with is chosen by our team because they meet our high standards. We taste test every product that goes into our marketplace, so that you can be sure you’re getting a curated selection of everything fresh and seasonal. Here are a few of the things that matter most to us:

Transparent Practices

We want to know where everything we sell comes from - whole foods, as well as any products and their base ingredients.

Produce, Meat, Seafood and Eggs

The growing and harvesting practices of all items in our marketplace are detailed in the farmer and artisan biographies.

Artisanal Products

Every ingredient used by our artisans is traceable to its origin.

Our artisans are conscientious of the origin of their ingredients, and source as many of their ingredients as they can locally.

Whenever possible, we source value-added items directly from producers who both create all (or some) of the ingredients, and carry out their own production - cheeses from dairies, preserves from the farmers who grow the fruit, pastas from farmers growing their own grains, sauces from farmers who grow their own tomatoes, and so on.

Local Farmers

We source everything from farmers and artisans that are located within a day’s drive of our Communities. More often than not, this means that we source from within 250 miles or less - the closer the better!

Produce, Meat, Seafood and Eggs

Our produce is grown or harvested within a day’s drive, so it ripens in the ground, not in the back of a truck or a freezer.

Artisanal Products

Our artisans products are also made within a day’s drive of our distribution hubs, and sometimes much closer - occasionally right in our own backyard!

Good Food

We prefer artisans and producers who use whole, raw ingredients and conscientious growing methods to produce tasty, quality products.

Produce, Meat, Seafood and Eggs

Many of our producers are USDA-certified organic, while others go “beyond organic,” using no sprays of any kind. Some use a sustainable set of growing practices known as Integrated Pest Management (IPM), or are Certified Naturally Grown (CNG). Whatever the case, we make sure we know what’s going on, and that you can too.

Our fish is wild, our meat is pasture-raised, and the eggs and dairy are free of GMOs, hormones, and antibiotics.

Artisanal Products

We preference the use of real, whole, and unprocessed ingredients. Given this, we select products without any artificial colors, sweeteners, or preservatives. We also preference healthier ingredient options - unrefined versus refined sugars, whole versus white grains, and so on.

Diverse Choices

We prefer to work with a variety of artisans and farmers, to ensure that you get as much diversity of choice as possible and that we’re all supporting a varied and independent local food system.

Produce, Meat, Seafood and Eggs

We focus on sourcing from a wide group of farmers, from generational family farms to brand new farms, places that run the gamut in product and style - as long as they still maintain our other standards and are excited to join the Farmigo family.

Artisanal Products

We work with artisan operations of all sorts and sizes, who maintain our other standards and a small-batch ethos.
